Till the last movement of the Prophet’s life, Ali (p.b.h) was accompanying to him (p.b.h) like his shade. The Prophet (p.b.h) was teaching and directing him , he entrusts his secrets with him (p.b.h) . At the last hour of his life , the Prophet (p.b.h) said call my brother , some Muslims came but the Prophet (p.b.h) did not to care for them , then , when Ali has come , the Prophet (p.b.h) said : “Come closer ” . Ali (p.b.h) came closer to the prophet who leaned on him and began to talk to him till he died while he was in Ali’s lap. Ali (p.b.h) himself had mentioned that event in one of his famous speeches.

The Prophet’s Death and the ceremony of his burying

Nobody was around the Prophet in his last moments but Ali Bin Abi Talin (p.b.h) and Hashim’s Children (Bano Hashim) . People have known about the Prophet’s  (p.b.h) death when they heard crying and weeping coming from the Prophet’s house . The news of his death has spread all over Medina as fast as the fire spreads in the dry stalks . People sadness and amazement have controlled people when the heard about the Prophet’s death despite he (p.b.h) had prepared for that and he had announced his death for them many times. He (p.b.h) had determined by a will that they had to obey their new leader and his successor , Ali Bin Abi Talib.

The Prophet’s death was a great shock that shook Muslims’ feelings . Medina went in a huge confusion , people gathered around the Prophet’s house (p.b.h), they were listening to Omar Bin Al Khatab and he was threatening  them with his sword saying : “There are some hypocrites who  allege that the Prophet (p.b.h) has  died , I swear by Allah that the Prophet didn’t die but he went like Moses the son of  Omran  ” 

Despite there was not any similarity between Moses's absence and the Prophet’s death but Omer still insisting on his opinion.  

Omer didn’t calm down till Abou Baker has arrived and went into the Prophet’s house (p.b.h) , when he uncovered the Prophet’s face , he hurried outside and said : “O people! Whoever worships Mohammed , he should know that Mohammed has died , and he who worships Allah, he should know that Allah is Live ,He  never dies   ” Then he read the verse : “And Muhammad is no more than an apostle , the apostles have  already passed away before him . ”[34]

Then Omer calmed down and  alleged that he didn’t observe that verse in the holy Qur'an .

Abou Baker , Omer ,and some of their friends hurried to the shed of Bani Sa’eda where they held meeting to discuss the caliphate after the Prophet’s death .They pretended to have forgotten the assigning of Ali Bin Abi Talib  (p.b.h) to be the caliph , they also  pretended to have forgotten their homage to Ali Bin Abi Talib (p.b.h). They didn’t realize that what  they have done is considered  slighting to the sanctity of the Prophet (p.b.h) and to his body which was still laid out.

On the other hand , Ali Bin Abi Talib (p.b.h) and his family were busy with enshrouding and burying the Prophet’s body. Ali (p.b.h) himself washed the prophet’s body , and ,Al Abbas Bin Abdul Muttalib,  and his son, Al Fadhl , were helping him . He was saying : “ I sacrifice my parents for you , whether alive or dead , how nice you are! ”

Then they put the Prophet’s body on a bed. Ali (p.b.h) said : “The Prophet (p.b.h) alive or dead is our Imam , so go and do pray upon him in groups with no Imam ” The first one who did pray upon the Prophet (p.b.h) was Imam Ali (p.b.h) and Bano Hashim (Hashim’s sons ) , then Al Ansar came and did pray upon Him (p.b.h).

Ali (p.b.h) stood opposite to the Prophet’s body and said : “ O Prophet of Allah , Peace be upon you and His Mercy and His blessing . O God ! We testify that , he  informed what has been revealed to him , he was faithful to his nation , he struggled for the sake of Allah , until Allah did consolidate His religion , and His word was completed. O God! Make us from those who follow what has been revealed to him , and keep us on his way after him , and join us with him ” People say Amen . Men , women , and even youth did pray upon him.

The grave of the Prophet was dug in room where he died. When Imam Ali wanted to put the Prophet’s body in his grave , Ansar Shouted from outside : “O Ali , we remind you our right to take part in the Prophet’s burying , let one of us help you to gain this honor” . Ali (p.b.h) said : “ Let Aous Bin Khowali get in ” , and he was one of those who took part in Badr Battle from Bani Aouf  .

Ali (p.b.h) went into the grave , he uncovered the Prophet’s face , he puts the prophet’s cheek on the earth , then he covered him earth.

Nobody of the Prophet’s companions who went to the meeting of (Al Saqifah )[35] had attended the Prophet’s funeral nor did pray upon him.

O Prophet of Allah ! Peace be upon you when you were born, when you are died , and when you are resurrected alive.
