It is reported in the book "Al Towhid" for the
late, Shaykh Al Sadooq, Imam Musa bin Ja'afar (P.b.u.h) said:
"Our Shi'a are those who supported us and followed our guidance, and imitated
our actions".
It is reported in "Qurbul Esnad" for Himayri, Imam Ja'far Al Sadeq (P.b.u.h)
said:
"Examine our Shi'a by their keeping to the time of prayers, and by keeping
our secrets from our enemies, and by helping each other by their money"
The author of "Kafi" reported from Jaber bin Yezid Al Ju'fi, from Imam Al
Baqer (P.b.u.h) his saying:
"O Jaber! Is it enough for someone who adopts the Shi'ism to say: I love you
the people of the house? I swear by God! Our Shi'a is no one but those who
feared God and obeyed Him, they are known by humbleness, yielding, faithfulness,
prayer, fasting, filial piety, helping the poor neighbors, debtors and orphans,
truthfulness, reciting Qur'an, and never mentioning people but in good. Jaber
said: O son of Prophet of God! We know nobody with these properties! He said
(P.b.u.h): O Jaber! Don’t be mixed up. It is enough for someone to say: I love
Ali and follow him, then he never do something! If he said I love the Prophet of
God – the Prophet is better than Ali – but he never follows him and never works
according to his rubric, so he will never get used of this love at all! So you
should fear God, and seek His acceptance, there is no any relationship between
God and any of His creatures. The closest servants to God, are those who obey
Him and follow His orders. O Jaber! Nobody could get closer to God, but with
God-fearingness. We do not have acquittal from Hellfire, and nobody has document
against God. Whoever obeyed God, he is our patron, and whoever disobeyed God, he
is our enemy. Our guardianship couldn’t be obtained but by work and piety".
It came in "Amali Al Shaykh Al Tusi" descending from Suleiman bin Mehran, he
said: Once I visited Al Sadeq, Ja'far bin Muhammad while he was talking to a
group of Shi'a, he said:
"O our Shi'a be good to us, and don’t be disgrace. Tell people good, and keep
your tongs, and refrain from curiosity and the ugly saying".
It came in the book "Al Mish-kat " descending from "Mehzim" he said: Once I
visited Abi Abdullah (P.b.u.h), and I mentioned the name of Shi'a, so he said:
"O Mehzim! Shi'a should not speak in aloud voice, and they should not let
others know about his anxiety, they should not love our enemies, they should not
hate our lovers, they should not sit with our enemy, he should not be greedy
like a crow, he never ask people for food even though he was starving, he always
be alone, he never changes wherever he was, they never missed when they are
absent, and nobody cares for them when they are present, if the proposed they
were not married, they get out of the present life and their needs in their
chests, they honor the believers, and they desert the unbelievers, they have
mercy upon the needy people. Then he said: O, Mehzim! My grand father, the
Prophet of Allah has said to Ali (p.b.u.h): O Ali! He is a liar who alleged he
loves me but he doesn’t love you. I am the city of knowledge and you are the
gate, and nobody could get into a city but through its gate. "
It is reported in "Al Kafi" from "Al Mufadhal " his saying: Abu Abdullah (
p.b.u.h ) has said: "Don’t be low, since Ali's followers are those who keep
their stomachs and private parts away from sins, and who work for their Creator,
and hopes for His reward, and fears His punishment. If you saw those people you
should know that they are the Shi'a of Ja'far. "
It is reported in the "Amali" of Shaykh Al Tusi, from Imam Al Ridha form his
fathers from Imam Muhammad Al Baker (P.b.u.h), he said to Khuthaymah: "Tell our
Shi'a that we don’t suffice them from Allah, and tell them that, nobody could
get the God's satisfaction but with good deeds, and tell them that, he who
advises others to do something, but he works against his advice, then he will be
the most regret on the day of resurrection, and tell our Shi'a that, they will
be the winner on the day of resurrection if they did what they were supposed to
do "
It is reported in the "Kafi" from Amro bin Abi Mukdam, he said: I heard Aba
Abdullah (P.b.u.h) says:
" Once I went with my father when he met some of his Shi'a. He greeted them
then he said: I swear that I love you, but I hope you help me by the fear of God
and the diligence. You should know that our guardianship could not be get but by
diligence and the fear of God. Whoever followed someone's example, he should
imitate him. You are the Allah's Shi'a, and you are Allah's followers, you are
the winner in the present life and in the hereafter. We insured you the garden
by the insurance of Allah and the Prophet of God. I swear by God, no souls in
the Garden more than yours, so compete to get the highest degrees. You are the
good people, and your women are the good women. Ameerul Mu'mineen has told
Qanbar: Oh Qanbar, cheer up, the Prophet has died and he was displeased with his
people except the Shi'a. Everything has a glory, and the glory of Islam is the
Shi'a, and everything has support and the support of Islam is the Shi'a, and
everything has a peak, and the peak of Islam is the Shi'a, and everything has a
master and the master of meetings is the Shi'a's meeting, and everything has a
honor , and the honor of Islam is the Shi'a , and everything has Imam, and the
Imam of Earth is earth where shi'a live."
It is reported in "Khesal " of Shaykh Al Saduk from Abi Al Meqdam, from Imam
Muhammad Al Baqer (P.b.u.h) his saying:
"Oh Aba Al Muqdam! Ali's Shi'a are pale , the skinny and the withered ones,
their lips are dry, and their stomachs are empty, their faces are pale, when it
becomes dark they sleep on the ground, and they put their foreheads on the
earth, they have lots of worship, tears, prayers and they are lachrymose. They
are sad while people are happy."
It is reported in "Amali" of Shaykh Al Tusi , and in Irshad Al Shaykh Al
Mufid :
"Once Ameerul Mu'mineen left the mosque, and it was moonlight, he headed
toward the cemetery, some people have followed him, he turned to them and said:
Who are you? They said: "We are your followers!" He looked at their faces the he
said: Why can't I see the signs of Shi'a on your faces? The said: Oh Ameerul
Mu'mneen! What are the signs of Shi'a? He said: They should be pale because of
staying up at night, bleariness because of crying, and be convex because of
worship, their stomachs are empty because of fasting, and their lips are dry
because of the prayer, they are covered by the dust of the godly."
Al Shaykh Al Saduk also mentioned in the book "Sifat Al Shi'a " reported from
Imam Ja'far Al Sadeq (P.b.u.h):
"Imam Ali Bin Al Hussein was sitting at his home when some people knocked the
door. He told his slave girl to see who they were. They said we are from your
Shi'a . He stood up in a hurry and he was almost fell on the ground. But when he
opened the door he came back, and said: Where are the signs on the faces? Where
are the signs of worship? Where are the signs of prostration? Our Shi'a are just
known by their worship. They are skinny, their lips are withered, worship has
changed their faces, and their bodies are tired because of staying up at night,
they praise God when people keep silent, they pray when people sleep and they
are sad when people are happy."
It came in "Al Ihtijaj" for Shaykh Al Tibrisi, from Imam Al Hassan Al Askari
(P.b.u.h) his saying:
"A group of people came to Imam Al Ridha (P.b.u.h) and said: We are Ali's
Shi'a , but he delayed them for several days before he gives them permission,
then he told them: You should know that Ali's Shi'a are Hassan ,Hussein, Selman,
Abu Dhar, Al Muqdad, Ammar, Muhammad bin Abi Bakr and they never oppose his
orders."
